Privacy policy.

Wiser is developed by Collective Betterment Research Institute LLC. This policy covers the Wiser iPhone app, this website, and support email. The app keeps alarm settings and listening history on your device; we do not receive them automatically. You do not need a Wiser account. Apple-controlled device backups are described below.
What stays on your iPhone
The app stores your alarm times and repeat days, alarm labels and sound choices, scheduled lesson information, heard-lesson history, draft alarm, appearance preference, and onboarding choice on your device. Wiser uses this information to schedule alarms, show the lesson connected to an alarm, and preserve your Archives. The core experience does not require access to your microphone, contacts, or device location.
The app does not send this information to Collective Betterment Research Institute LLC, does not include an advertising or analytics SDK, and does not create a Wiser account. Completed lesson audio is bundled with or prepared by the app and plays locally. Wiser does not send your alarm or listening history to an AI service.
iOS and your Apple settings control device backups. A backup may contain Wiser's local data. Deleting an alarm removes it from the active alarm list after the change is confirmed; it does not delete a lesson already saved in Archives. Deleting the app normally removes its local app data from that device. Offloading an app is different and can preserve its data. An existing device backup may retain an earlier copy.
Apple services and diagnostics
Wiser relies on Apple system services for app distribution and alarm delivery. Apple processes information under its Privacy Policy. Wiser does not include its own crash-reporting service. If you choose to share app analytics or diagnostics with Apple and Apple makes a report available to the developer, Collective Betterment Research Institute LLC may receive technical information such as the app version, device and operating-system details, and crash or performance information. We would use it to diagnose problems and improve Wiser, not for advertising.
App Store purchases
If you buy narrated-lesson access, the purchase is handled through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple handles your Apple Account and payment method. The app uses signed transaction information to verify access, including product and transaction identifiers, transaction status, purchase or expiration dates, and refund or revocation status. We do not receive your payment-card number or Apple Account password. Verification happens through Apple and on your device; there is no Wiser purchase server. Apple retains its transaction records under its own policies. Deleting Wiser or a support message does not delete Apple's purchase history or cancel a subscription.
Apple may provide developers with App Store sales, subscription, refund, download, and product-page reports. Some reporting is aggregated. Apple's privacy terms govern the information Apple collects and provides.
The website and analytics
Vercel hosts this website. It processes request and security information to deliver and protect the site, including IP address, browser and device details, requested pages, and timestamps. We use available hosting logs to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the site. See Vercel's Privacy Notice.
We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they view, and how they find Wiser. It reports page paths, referring websites, approximate location, browser, operating system, and device type. We remove query parameters and fragments from page URLs before sending pageview events.
Web Analytics does not use cookies to identify visitors across websites. It uses a temporary identifier derived from a request; Vercel discards the visitor-session identifier after 24 hours. That does not mean all pageview statistics are deleted after 24 hours; aggregate reports may be retained for longer under the hosting service's retention settings. See Vercel's analytics privacy information for details. These website statistics are separate from your Wiser alarms and listening history, which we do not receive.
Pageview collection runs automatically on the public website when its analytics script loads. You can use browser content controls or disable JavaScript to prevent that script from running; the pages and audio sample remain usable. The website has no account, contact form, or advertising pixel. Playing the sample requests an audio file from this website; we do not send custom playback events to analytics.
Support messages
If you email support, we receive your email address, message, and any attachments you choose to include. For troubleshooting, we may ask for your iPhone model, iOS and Wiser versions, scheduled alarm time, and whether the phone was locked. We use it to reply, investigate the issue, prevent abuse, and keep reasonable support and business records. Please do not send passwords, payment-card information, or device logs unless we explain what is needed.
We keep support correspondence only as long as reasonably needed for those purposes and applicable recordkeeping obligations. Support email is hosted by Apple iCloud Mail. Apple processes messages to provide that service under its Privacy Policy.
Books, audiobooks, and affiliate links
Book and audiobook links are available without a paid Wiser entitlement and open a retailer outside Wiser. The retailer receives ordinary web-request information and applies its own privacy policy. Wiser does not add your alarm settings or listening history to those links.
Some book and audiobook links may be affiliate links. These links can include a Wiser referral identifier, and we may receive a commission or purchase report from the retailer. We disclose when a link can earn us a commission. The retailer, not Wiser, handles the retail purchase.
AI-assisted production
AI tools may assist Collective Betterment Research Institute LLC while researching, drafting, reviewing, or producing lesson narration before an app release. The app does not generate a personal response at runtime, and it does not send your alarms, Archives, preferences, or listening activity to those production tools. Synthetic narration is Wiser's presentation of its own commentary; it is not the voice of the author discussed.
Service providers and other disclosures
For personal information handled on our behalf, we require service providers to use safeguards at least as protective as this policy and the privacy requirements that apply to Wiser. Access must be limited to providing the service or meeting legal obligations. The providers used for this website and support are identified above.
Apple also acts independently when operating the App Store, Apple Accounts, device backups, and optional diagnostics. Retailers act independently when you follow their links. Their own privacy policies govern those services; we do not send them your alarm settings or listening history.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it to build advertising profiles. We may disclose information from a support message or site logs when needed to operate those services, protect users and the product, comply with law, or complete a business transaction subject to appropriate protections.
Your choices
- Edit or delete alarms in Wiser. To remove all local Wiser data, delete the app rather than offload it. Apple-controlled backups may retain earlier copies.
- You can withdraw alarm permission through iOS Settings. Without that permission, Wiser cannot deliver alarms. Changing this permission does not cancel an Apple subscription.
- Control Apple backup and diagnostic-sharing choices in your device settings.
- Manage or cancel App Store subscriptions through your Apple Account. Deleting Wiser is not a cancellation request.
- You can decline to send optional support messages. If you previously consented to optional processing, email the privacy contact below to withdraw that consent. This does not undo processing that was lawful before withdrawal or records we must retain.
- Ask about, correct, or request deletion of personal information that Collective Betterment Research Institute LLC actually holds, such as support correspondence. We may need to verify your request. Where applicable law allows or requires us to retain information, we will explain that when responding. We cannot access or delete information held only on your iPhone or in your Apple backup.
Privacy rights vary by location. Nothing in this policy limits rights that applicable law gives you.
Children
Wiser is a general educational product and is not directed to children under 13. It has no Wiser account and does not ask for a birth date. If you believe a child has sent personal information to support, contact us so we can review and delete it when appropriate.
Security and retention
The app keeps its data in local iOS storage. We use access controls for hosting and support accounts appropriate to the information they handle. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Alarm and Archive data can remain on your device until you remove it; temporary prepared audio and scheduling records may be cleaned up as part of normal operation. Apple-controlled backups may last longer. We retain support correspondence and any developer-accessible diagnostic reports only while needed to address issues, prevent abuse, and meet legal or business recordkeeping obligations. Website logs and aggregate statistics follow the provider's retention settings and our operational needs. We delete or de-identify information we hold when it is no longer needed, subject to legal obligations and normal backup cycles.
Changes and contact
We will update this policy and its date when Wiser's data practices materially change. We will provide additional notice and obtain consent when required before applying a new use of personal information.
